My Elevator Pitch? My Blogmentor says I Need to Publish it

elevator-pitchAssumption 1: Everyone knows what an Elevator Pitch is. They’re typically related to sales and advertising, sales, and marketing.

Assumption 2: Most folks understand what having a Personal Elevator Pitch means. As in Assumption 1, it’s related to selling and marketing, but it’s about yourself.

With regard to Assumption 2, I’ll add that a personal elevator pitch can have more meaning in that it helps to explain and define yourself to others and to yourself.

I buy in to the concept and as much as I originally categorized the effort in the “it’s not easy” box, I feel now that it’s not that hard, it just takes some effort (like most things).

As I get moving on publishing things I know nothing about, I gain insights from a “blogmentor”, or to be accurate, blogmentors. There are a number of people who have been at this longer than me and have achieved various levels of satisfaction and success. Being one not wanting to reinvent the wheel, I am accepting of techniques and ideas already proven successful, I am taking the coaching and guidance from my blogmentors to heart.

Here’s the guidance on the Personal Elevator Pitch:

  • Everyone needs one, it gives people insights about who we are. It’s a way for all of us to share and test our assumptions and ideas in real time with the people we might be able to serve.
  • You should be in the habit of sharing the things that you’re interested in and that excite you.
  • Keep it to 1-2 sentences, 4 max.

I don’t have CEP 1.0 (Cary’s Elevator Pitch, first edition) ready quite yet but I’m working on it and that’s another bit of advice from those with experience.  It’s ok ( and recommended by some) that your EP is a continuous work-in-progress. I do have my notes to share on what the foundation of CEP 1.0 is being built on. Here they are:

CEP 1.0 Key Drivers

  • Focusing on People – Esp. with regard to leaders, developing leaders and driving professional excellence by inspiring trust and loyalty.
  • Driving Culture – shaping behavior in my sphere of influence.
  • Creating disruptive scenarios to fuel innovation.
  • Coaching and educating on Leadership – to those in leadership positions or those who aspire to be leaders.
  • Talent management – Everyone has talent, I want to help creating the environment(s) for individuals to flourish.
  • Seeing success in others that I’ve inspired; watching them grow and be fulfilled.
  • Focusing on “the Why”, the purpose behind doing what I do.

Stay tuned…there will be more to follow.

  1. My friend, let it be more about you then about what you do. Who are you? Values? What makes you laugh and cry?
If it is about what you do, is it all about work or how does it relate to personal life?
What is the journey you are taking us on in your blog?
    Good luck! ?

    1. Thank you – I need and relish the feedback, opinions and advice! I’m on a new adventure and I’m both nervous and excited. I do need to put thought to the direction of the journey. I have always taken whichever path I felt best to take at the time, to great places and a few dead ends as well. It may appear I’m a bit lost as the journey gets going, but I hope to eventually find my way.
